THE CHALLENGE
Not only show where the trails were, but identify them by category as well as each community's current phase in the trail development process. Oh, and don't forget making the map mobile friendly and easily understood at all zoom levels.
Our solution
Start with the brand colors, play with layering different icons and opacities, and consider the design from nationwide down to a single community... all while integrating seamlessly with the expand/collapse filters to show exactly what the user needs and nothing else.

At a Glance
The map is peppered with colorful location markers indicating the breadth of IMBA's impact. This scatter of "Skittles" uses color to represent the status of each community's trail: Engaged (blue), Committed (orange), or Created (green). The prominent maroon markers highlight Featured Trails.
Dig Deeper
The clickable map invites users to dig into the details by zooming in and out. With a simple click of any location marker, key information and links appear in a pop-up. Trail partner websites are provided as well as a button leading to webpage highlighting the ins and outs of that particular trail project.
Find it Faster
The left-side filters feature expand and collapse categories to help the user search more efficiently. Each selection they make instantly updates the map, giving them a visual result to support their search. Additionally, the map and filters are fully responsive, allowing users to navigate them just as easily on a phone as a high resolution monitor.
