overview
Turning complexity into clarity
NIACS had hundreds of pages of research, resources, projects, trainings, and regional information to organize. We rethought the site structure and user experience to create clearer pathways through all that content—using strong visual cues, photography, maps, filters, and custom page structures to help visitors get where they need to go. And we're regularly working with the NIACS team to modify and strengthen the site as their needs change from year to year.

THE CHALLENGE
With more than 600 pages and information spanning regions, ecosystems, projects, resources, and events, the challenge wasn’t a lack of content—it was helping users understand where to start and what mattered most.
OUR SOLUTION
We reviewed both the existing and proposed site structures, refined the information architecture, and created a more intuitive experience built around clear choices and actions. Color, photography, maps, filters, and consistent content types help turn a massive resource library into something much easier to navigate.
The website
A clearer path through the woods
We designed the site around the way people actually look for information. Top-level pages provide clear next steps, while regional maps, project filters, downloadable resources, training listings, and structured content make it easier to move from broad questions to specific answers.
CUSTOM DIGITAL EXPERIENCE
Making maps do more
Interactive maps became an important part of the experience, helping visitors explore ecosystem vulnerability, find resources by region, and discover demonstration projects across the country. Custom filters let users narrow projects by details such as state, landowner type, status, and focus area.
Rather than asking visitors to dig through page after page, Monte created visual and interactive tools that bring the right information closer to the surface.
CONSISTENCY BEHIND THE SCENES
Built to keep growing
A System That Scales
Custom content types give the distributed NIACS team an easier way to add projects, trainings, events, regional information, and other resources while maintaining a consistent structure throughout the site.
